It has been AGES since I have done anything even remotely competitive but when I saw this new Golem's typing and abilities it really peaked my interest!

Golem-Alola (M) @ Assault Vest
Trait: Galvanize
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Return/Double-Edge
- Earthquake
- Explosion/Volt Switch

This new typing in my opinion is a godsend removing the x4 weaknesses in grass and water that always plagued Golem and every other Rock/Ground type in the game. Sure he still takes super effective dmg from them but x2 is MUCH more manageable than x4. He loses his Ground typing which is unfortunate but he still resists Electric and x4 resists flying while still being able to resist Fire. He did become x4 weak to Ground which is unfortunate but Ground type moves are generally easy to see coming.

For the set itself EV's are set up for bulky offense with an Assault Vest to soak up hits on his weaker special side. EdgeQuake has always been great coverage and will continue to be even if Earthquake is no longer stab. With Galvanize all Normal type moves become Electric and gain 20% extra power making his Return/Double-Edge STAB and become one of the strongest Physical Electric moves in the game. Return for solid dmg with no recoil or Double-Edge for wall breaking. The final slot is interesting since Volt Switch is extremely useful due to Golem's very low speed giving you switch initiative...plus it is STAB but Golem's Sp Atk isn't anything to write home about so forcing switches and gaining the upper hand is the main selling point. The second option is Explosion. If you know for a fact will die soon and you no longer need him why not make him go out with a bang backed by THE STRONGEST EXPLOSION in the game. With Galvanize Explosion becomes STAB and gets that nice 20% power boost as well which will completely decimate anything that isn't a ground typing. Even Pokemon that x4 resist Electric will have difficulties surviving.

Now this is probably a fairly common set for Golem nowadays but like I said I haven't even attempted anything competitively in a while and this was the first type of set that came to mind ^^ I'm sure his EV's will need to be tweaked some to take certain hits from all the new mons I don't even know about so don't be too harsh haha.
