i forget if there is a rule about bumping threads, but if there is, may i suggest that they be automatically closed after a certain amount of time, unless requested to be opened with permission from staff?

certainly someone could do this through some kind of coding

I believe there's a rule against reviving dead threads, but it's not been enforced that much in the past. This is something that @Cody, @ninJAS and I have discussed recently, actually, and it does seem like a good idea, and simple enough to implement. We will be re-writing the forum's rules in the near future, and an enforced rule regarding thread bumping is already being talked about.

I like this idea, a 2 week/1 month period after the last post was posted should be enough :3 (1 month might be a little much) would help new players who don't know how to find the date/don't know what bumping is and why it's bad.

EDIT : Yay ? :3

Well, in my opinion, a 1 month cut-off for a thread would seem too soon. On larger forums, 1 month could be about right, but as it stands right now, automatically locking threads when they've not been posted in for a month will leave us with threads locked on the first pages of sub-forums, and that just doesn't look good, y'know?

Don't worry, we'll definitely talk about this, and figure out a way for it to work.

The way I have normally seen it done, and seems to be rather effective, is that there is a suggested cut-off point (usually 3 or 4 weeks), but if someone has something to add that hasn't been brought up on the topic before and it's generally insightful, it's considered okay.

i.e. it's okay to bump dead topics, but only if you have something worthwhile to say.

Just a suggestion, mind you. Take it how you will.

I have disappeared from here. As apology, please accept this cheery picture.
