Why? When you can breed that Event Torchic and send out a whole bunch of Speed Boost Torchic babies.

And Fenniken, you can't trade a Gen I event Mew unless it's over link cable.

And bidding is sincerely kinda dumb, because you still have to trade something anyways.

I honestly think bidding is a bad idea due to the fact that someone else is making a profit out of a Pokemon rather than a trade in which both sides can get something they want. Sure trading a Pidgey for some event Pokemon is unfair, but it doesn't have to be that way. With things such as Pokegen and Pokesav, Pokemon can be legitimately made and lose their value. For example, this would lead someone with access to Pokegen the ability to make ultra rare and "expensive" Pokemon for others to bid on. Thus this person would be making a ridiculous amount of profit, making it unfair for others. Some people also don't have a lot of Poke Dollars, giving those who do have a lot of Poke Dollars a high advantage due to the amount that they can earn from the interest rate from the Bank.

Imagine two people who don't have a certain event Pokemon. Someone starts up a thread auctioning an event Pokemon that neither of them have and desperately need. A starting bid is made at a high price, and post by post each bid counter the next. Eventually others who don't have enough poke dollars are discouraged and the two with a lot of poke dollars go to war by outbidding each other. Eventually one gets the Pokemon, but the bidding itself could lead to forum feuds, which we don't want to happen. Bidding for Pokemon, even if it could be beneficial for the person who holds auction, may possibly cause disruptions between forum members. It could also lead to one person who has access to cheating devices become extremely wealthy, which would be encouraging bad behavior.

I can't believe you would actually do it.
Edit: Also, people are selling shinies on ebay, at this link:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=pok...y&_sacat=0

I've been an Ebay user for years and I'm surprised people are paying so much or any money at all. I saw some guy selling his Pokémon X with 6 shinys and there was actually someone who made a $200 bid for it :-O

Bidding pokémon is a bad idea, whether it's with real money or Pokédollars.

There's already a "bidding" system when it comes to Pokemon trades: it's called having the rarest Pokemon, coolest shiny, or a monochrome Pokemon. I see it all the time in the form of "I want to get rid of my legendaries, whoever offers the most appealing Pokemon wins." PokeDollars are a bad way of going about this because only the members who have been here the longest will be able to get them. For instance, I've been here for an amount of time, so I could win some bids against new members of the forum. However, people such as Jas or CMM (examples, don't take names seriously xD) could definitely beat me. It pretty much comes down to who's been here the longest, which is unnecessary. If you would like, you could offer a Pokemon and say, "I want x amount of PokeDollars for this," which I usually do just to keep my shops free of people who just join to post in my thread, and then never respond afterwards. But it shouldn't be some obscene amount that only veterans would be able to afford.

tl;dr: Feel free to ask for PokeDollars for certain Pokemon, just expect to be disappointed if you want to make a fortune off of trading Pokemon. Bidding wouldn't work in a forum like this.
